Hello everyone and welcome to ModsHelpMods!
With so many people creating communities, perhaps for the first time, we thought it would be helpful to have a community where all those moderators could come to ask for help, clarification, and general support.
Some things we can see the community being used for:
* Sharing ideas for running communities
That might mean tools that help with given tasks (either available in Pillowfort or outside it), or it might mean ways to engage with community members, get them involved, etc.
* Creating a general How To for new mods (possibly collected from things that are already being posted)
There are a lot of good advice posts being circulated. We might consider not just reblogging them here but creating our own and adding to it as Pillowfort keeps going through changes.
* Basic tech help
Even if you have modded communities before, how they work on Pillowfort is unique. So it would be helpful to have a group that can advise new community teams on how to get started, as well as what is or isn't possible.
* Advocating for specific changes from Pillowfort Staff
Pillowfort is likely to develop in response to what its users need, and community mods will be a big part of that. So by coming together we may be able to better combine requests and specific needs to present to Staff.
* Asking for shout-outs for events from like minded communities
Some sites have "affiliate" communities -- groups that overlap in their interests. There's nothing directly like that here, although each community could create some links in their Intro and About posts. But having similar group teams know one another means they can more easily collaborate in things like promoting one another's events or activities. It also means that mods can work together to promote site-wide events.
* Asking for co-mods
Especially when communities are new, finding others to help can be tough. This can be a place to meet one another and tap one another for help, even if it's temporary.
* Asking for advice from other mods.
When you have specific problems it can also be helpful to bounce ideas off of other people who may be running into similar things.
But there are things that ModsHelpMods is not for:
* Complaining about individual users in public posts
Whether it's mods griping about specific community members or members joining us to complain about their mods -- just no. We don't want this to be a community for bitchfests, however frustrating leading a community can sometimes be.
* Disputes between mods
This is not a courtroom either: see above.
* Asking for a community to be created
Whether a similar community already exists or if there's something you simply want to see, ModsHelpMods is not a place for community requests. Give modding a go yourself and then look for specific help here.
* Listing existing communities
If you want to find communities then the comm you need is @CommunityAds. Announcements for new communities can also go to the Active Users group.
Your ModsHelpMods team is Tasha, Reeby10, and Yourlibrarian. We expect that the above guidelines may change as our group grows but you can always ask questions and make suggestions for the community here.
