Guidelines
Most rules infractions will result in warnings and/or reminders (usually by message, unless that's unavailable), but repeated or extreme and deliberate infractions may result in bans (temporary or otherwise).
1. No sweeping statements about how the games 'should' be played.
- There are no 'correct' or 'wrong' choices, everything in the games are valid choices to explore.
- There's also no 'wrong' ways to play Sidestep, or 'correct' picks for Ortega/Mortum's genders, which henchman or villain route, etc.
- It's fine if you find some choices too unpleasant to pick, or if you strongly prefer some choices over others; but please be respectful of other players.
2. Don't expect the same level of engagement or knowledge from everyone.
- It's okay to try and explore everything, or to pick mostly/all the same choices every time; become invested in the stats, strategize choices, etc, or go through it purely as a narrative; roleplay or not; multiple Sidesteps or just one; and everything inbetween.
- It's okay to comb through the books, and outside the books, for every morsel of lore; it's also okay to not know everything there is to know about the game, or to play 'fast and loose' with canon.
- Everything's Cool Here
3. Refrain from spreading Patreon secrets!
- Mentioning that there are POV stories on Malin's patreon, and even giving non-spoilery summaries, is fine.
- Talking about the guy that lives in Sidestep's vents, the extensive evidence that Psychopathor is Herald, or the future secret Catastrofiend romance route (I just made these up), is not.
4. Negativity and criticism is allowed, within reason.
- Be respectful of other community members, and be respectful of the work that's gone into the game
- Posts like 'I felt like X could have been handled better, I would've preferred Y/Z' or 'I find A/B uncompelling as a ship for XYZ reasons' are fine
- Posts more along the lines of 'X was shitty, I can write this better' or 'anyone who ships A/B is stoopid' are not
-
Negativity and critcism must be tagged, preferably with a tag specific to the subject of criticism (like 'rebirth negativity' or 'flystep criticism' or similar)
- Posts that are judged to be too inflammatory may be deleted without warning.
5. NSFW content is allowed, so long as it's toggled and tagged appropriately.
- Gore and depictions of extreme injury are NSFW.
- This includes artistic nudity, fetish-adjacent, and suggestive content as well.
- This means tagging porn, nudity, gore, kink, fetishes, etc, where applicable.
-
Insufficiently tagged NSFW posts will be deleted without warning. Simply using the tag 'nsfw' is not enough.
6. Use tags, especially for common triggers, as well as characters and ships.
- Untagged posts will be deleted without warning.
- Common triggers include: suicide, self harm, smoking, drugs, pedophelia, abuse, blood, gore, rape, incest, and so on.
7. Tag spoilers! Preferably as 'fallen hero spoilers', 'fhr spoilers', 'fallen hero rebirth spoilers' and similar, instead of just 'spoilers'.
- This includes certain big reveals, both for Sidestep and for other characters, and niche/'secret' routes (such as Mortum's gun, Argent's romance, or certain Puppet routes).
- Where possible, it's polite to put spoilers in a readmore, but this isn't required.
Miscellaneous
Tips for how tags work on PF:
- PF's blacklist only catches the exact tag blacklisted, so 'blood' will not catch 'tw: blood'.
- PF's blacklist doesn't catch the OG tags on a reblog; you need to re-tag when reblogging.
- Tags are separated by commas, not slashes or hashtags.
A good rule of thumb for tagging spoilers is if it's...
- Anything after the free demos end (spotting Ortega in the cafe in Rebirth, finding out about the reporter in Ortega's office in Retribution)
- Especially anything from games still in the drafting/testing process
- Anything that nets you a hidden achievement
- Anything you'd have to code-dive to find out
- Anything that really surprised/shocked you!
Then you should consider if it's worth putting a spoiler tag on it (it may not be! But it's useful to consider these for new players).
